The 50 Mile Walk

Posted on July 06, 2004

Would you like to sponsor the charity fundraising endeavor of a fellow BBPA member?

Dear BBPA members,

My name is Hasina Khanam, and I currently work with clients with various neurological conditions with the Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team at St Leonard's in Hackney. The reason for this email is to ask you to help raise money for charity.

I am planning on completing a 50-mile walk in August, called the 'BIGfoot Wiltshire Challenge 2004', on behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. This walk will take place over three days, from 20th - 22nd August of this year. The money raised will go towards funding home adaptations, mobility equipment, and training and education. The money will also be used to fund research into treatments which will hopefully help ease pain and suffering, and prolong the lives and dignity of MS sufferers.

Multiple sclerosis is a disease that affects the nerve pathways through which information is carried to the central nervous system (i.e. brain and spinal cord). Subsequently, people with MS can experience partial or complete loss of any function that is controlled by, or passes through, the brain or spinal cord. As you can imagine, this can affect just about any bodily function, causing loss of vision to short term memory problems, muscle spasms to incontinence. (For more information visit the MS Society at: http://www.mssociety.org.uk/).

As I work with MS sufferers, I am exposed to the difficulties they face, as well the challenges they have to overcome in daily life, things that we take for granted, such as being able to walk short distances without feeling fatigued and in pain, being able to do things for ourselves without relying on others, and being able to go to work and enjoy leisure activities.

Please help me raise money for this worthy cause. I have been in training, and anyone who knows me will agree that this cause must be important if it means that I am actually exercising and taking my fitness seriously!

My fundraising page is: http://www.justgiving.com/hasina

Please visit and donate as much as you can. I will aim to keep a photo diary of the walk (bunions, corns etc!) so that I can share my experience with you all.

So please, visit the webpage now and donate. I know you're a generous lot.

Thanks so much everyone, looking forward to seeing your donations on my website!

Kindest regards,

Hasina Khanam
