Iftar in the City 2007

We are pleased to announce that members have donated over £5000 at the fundraising iftar reception in aid of the Bangladesh Flood Relief Appeal.

Bangladesh has been suffering from one of the worst floods in living memory following abnormally heavy monsoon rains. The situation was particularly acute in north-eastern districts as rainfall in the basins of the Ganges, Meghna and Brahmaputra rivers discharge into Bangladesh. It is estimated that 20 million people have been displaced from their homes, over 500 killed and 20 of Bangladesh's 65 districts are under water.

Nearly 150 members attended the fundraising iftar on 20 September at the Cafe Naz restaurant in London. This was a joint effort by The BBPA, The BoB Network and BritBangla. The 'Art Auction' featuring works donated by contemporary British-Bangladeshi artists proved particularly popular, with bids for individual items reaching hundreds of pounds. The money raised will go to the Red Cross's Flood Appeal
