The Kings Cross Community Development Project (CDP) aims to bring
strategic focus to community development in Kings Cross. The CDP
is currently implementing the major part of King Cross Partnership’s
Community Development Strategy. The objective is to ensure that
local communities contribute to, and benefit from, the regeneration
of Kings Cross by supporting them in building their capacity to
deliver a range of quality services and by enabling them to inform
and participate in the changes that are taking place.
The CDP is funded the Kings Cross Partnership. The aim of the
Partnership is to coordinate effort and provide the strategic
framework for the seven-year £37.5 regeneration programme in Kings
Cross under the Government’s Single Regeneration Budget (SRB)
initiative. The Partnership brings together a broad range of private
sector interests, the local community and the public sector including
the two local authorities for the area.
The Partnership’s vision focuses on the transformation of Kings
Cross into a vibrant and distinctive new quarter for London –
an important and positive part of a successful world city. The
intention is to work towards making a fundamental and long lasting
change to the area, to implement a comprehensive and coherent
programme of interlinked physical, economic and social initiatives.
This effort will complement the impact of some £2 billion investment
in the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link which is now expected to be
completed by 2007/8.
