The Careers Fair is being organised by the British-Bangladeshi Professional Association to improve the employment prospects of graduates from ethnic minority community. The key objectives of the Fair are To inspire confidenceThe Careers Fair aims to inspire confidence in graduate job seekers by providing an opportunity to meet others from similar backgrounds and circumstances who have successfully established themselves at different levels in a range of profession. We wish to dispel the idea that certain career paths are not available on the grounds of gender or ethnicity. In more affluent communities, an informal support network exists through family and friends that provides ongoing careers advice. However, such as support network is lacking for graduates from less affluent communities such as King’s Cross where most families have no identifiable tradition of higher education or professional employment. The Careers Fair will provide an opportunity for job seekers to maintain contact with professionals who will able to provide ongoing advice. To Inform on career opportunitiesThe Careers Fair will focus on a range of professional careers that are open to graduates from any discipline. Through the use of career specific-workshops, the Careers Fair will provide an overview of a range of professions, as well as different career paths within each profession. The workshop presenters are all active professionals, some of whom have recently been through the application process. To develop job seeking skillsThe Careers Fair skill building workshops will enable graduate job seekers to understand their transferable skills, develop career objectives, learn how to position themselves in the job market and prepare themselves for job search. To promote successThe Careers Fair aims to alert leading graduate recruiters to a pool of talent that may have been overlooked in their current recruitment strategies.
