Volunteer researcher & data coordinator

Closing date for applications: 10 September 2004 (starting date: ideally mid to late September)
minimum term required: 2 months full-time or 4 months half-time
volunteer must have access to a computer with internet access (preferably high-speed)
full-time volunteers receive US$500 per month stipend/expenses
half-time volunteers receive US$250 per month stipend/expenses
location: the volunteer will work from wherever he/she is based

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre (www.business-humanrights.org) has become the world’s leading independent resource on the subject. Our website, updated hourly, receives over 1.5 million hits per month. It covers over 1600 companies, 160 countries, 150 issues. The UN and ILO have, at their request, linked their websites to ours.

We are seeking a hard-working volunteer to help us further develop our website.

Your tasks will include:

1. Data entry: Update broken & outdated links on our site.

2. Online research & input: Identify relevant items online (about company conduct on discrimination, environment, poverty, health, etc.); complete an input form to add each item to our site.

3. Expanding our contacts database: Use the internet to identify contacts throughout the world who should be invited to receive our free Weekly Updates, then enter their details.

4. Raising awareness about the Resource Centre, by contacting relevant organisations.

You should be self-motivated, and able to work independently. You should have an interest in international social and environmental issues. Attention to detail and accurate spelling are essential.

You must be willing to do a large amount of routine data input efficiently & accurately. You will also need research and analytical skills.

You must have access to a computer with email and internet access (preferably high-speed access). You must have basic proficiency in computer use, including word processing, email, and using the internet. Previous experience working on a website is not necessary.

Languages: You must have a good working knowledge of English. If you have strong skills in Spanish, French or Portuguese, some of your work will include research & input in those languages.

You will be trained and supervised by one of our Senior Researchers.
